GMG Interview Series-Ed Ewing

Ed grew up in Beaver, PA (near Pittsburg). He loved biology and making things with his hands. He tells about making a boat when he was 16 years old. He has had a long career as an MD and a researcher. He retired from the CDC in 2000. Ed grew up in a musical family, so it’s no surprise that he enjoys music so much himself. He began piano at 9 years old and also learned to play the tuba in high school. Like many people, interests like piano fall by the wayside during those years when you are focused on your career. Ed returned to piano lessons after he retired. He primarily enjoys Bach, Rachmaninoff, and Ravel. He attended a music camp in Vermont for 15 years. He also loves jazz and has done some of his own composing. This is just a snapshot of Ed, so please enjoy his interview where you will learn so much more about his life and musical journey.
