Pianist You Ju Lee is an accomplished pianist who has won numerous awards and performed recitals in Europe, Asia and the United States. Press reviews of her recent concerts stated, “Pianist You Ju Lee is a remarkable soloist and she brought clear, defined sonorous contour to Mozart’s Piano Concerto K.449” and “Lee’s playing reflects a beautiful sense of style, great accuracy and fine feeling for music” from her Gala Concert at Carnegie Hall, New York.

“You Ju Lee’s CD, entitled Chopin: Selected Piano Works is a wonderfully expressive recording, superb interpretation and flawless technique are captivating. Her playing is exceptionally strong, forthright, and tonally beautiful, with elegant and poetic phrasing throughout.”

Dr. Lee’s recent professional highlights include solo and duo piano recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall; Spivey Hall; Mu Phi International Convention in Rochester, New York; Winners Gala Concert for the American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music and New York Debut Recital in the Artists International Special Presentation Winners’ Series at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. Her performances have explored solo, chamber, and orchestral music from baroque to contemporary, collaborating with twentieth and twenty-first century award winning composers including Jean Michel Damase, Sofia Gubaidulia, Marga Richter, and Joan Tower.

 

In the Fall of 2016, Dr. Lee was awarded the ACME (Artists, Composers, Musicologists & Educators) Mu Phi Epsilon International, honoring a distinguished national or international musical career as an artist, composer, musicologist, or educator. In 2015, Dr. Lee’s Piano Trio Concert was broadcast on WRAF radio in (90.9 FM/88.5 FM), and she was interviewed by Newton TV, in Newton, MA. In 2014, she was featured as the cover story in The Music: “You Ju Lee at Toccoa Falls College.”  She recently released a CD entitled Chopin: Selected Piano Works, which is currently available on the Apple iTunes store and Amazon.com. She was an invited guest pianist at the Bella Musica Concert at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, and her performance was included in the CD release commemorating that event. Dr. Lee’s article on the Piano Works of Marga Richter was published in Clavier Companion magazine. 

 

You Ju Lee received her D.M.A. degree from the University of Georgia under Dr. Richard Zimdars. She studied under Ruth McDonald at Georgia State University and continued her graduate program at City University London under Carola Grindea and in New York at the Eastman School of Music under Barry Snyder, and the Manhattan School of Music under Dr. Marc Silverman. 

 

Dr. Lee is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music, currently serves as an Associate Professor of Piano at Toccoa Falls College, in Toccoa, Georgia. She has served as an adjudicator for various competitions in Seoul, Korea, Artists International in New York City, the biennial Young Artists Piano Showcase in New York City, MTNA Young Artists Competition, in New York and South Carolina, National Federation of Music Clubs and GMTA auditions for Fulton, Cobb, and DeKalb counties in Georgia.
