Suggestions for Daily Practice Organization

I'd be interested to hear how (if) people specifically plan out each practice day, and if they also log any insights gained. I haven't had a situation (other than college, decades ago) where I had to learn multiple works in short order. So, any help people can provide, tips, tricks, etc., to speed the learning process would be greatly appreciated!

Ah, Nico is a 15 year old member who joined GMG when he was 11 or 12. Although he's one of the younger members, he does have some advanced pieces in his repertoire. Currently he's working on Bach's Partita #2 and Felix Blumenfeld's Etude for the Left Hand and he'll be playing those in our state competition this year. If you want to see him play, he has a piece in most of the monthly online recitals (although we didn't realize the change in submission date this month so his piece apparently didn't make the cut for January). He also has a website at www.NicoBrett.com which links to his YouTube channel, Nico's Concert Hall. We're in the middle of cha…

Kelly, sorry for not responding sooner! I’m new to Wix and so I didn’t notice the “more” link so I could read it. These are awesome suggestions. It is the kind of advice I was looking for! I have one question, since I am in Texas, I don’t know everyone in the Georgia contingent yet, so who is Nico?

Some days I can practice 2 hours but many days with no practice, which is not good.

Tim, you are a very modest person. I hope I can play 5% of your repertoire some day. Your Prokofiev Toccata was great! You are solid technically and musically. It's great you joined GMG. You have a lot to offer!

I can offer a couple of tips from on of Nico's teachers. (I don't play, but I've sat in every lesson for over 10 years and taken notes!)

Here are a couple tips from Dr. Robert Henry. When you have a trouble spot, work on it until you can play it four times perfectly in a row. Judge yourself harshly. If it's not really perfect, start the count over. Depending on how tricky it is, you may up the ante and make yourself play it 12x perfectly in a row using the pattern 4x in a row slowly, then 4x at half tempo, then 4x at full tempo.

Regarding efficient learning, you should revisit your pieces for a short time…
